We took the short trip because with the pandemic the long one is suspended. It's nice even if you don't go to much into the cave, our guide was really really nice, very friendly and good speaker. It was a guick good experience.

Small cave visit due to corona but once they open back Up the full thing it takes up to 3 hours. Now it is like 40minutes and also for Elderly people and Kids easy access

Open only by appointment during the pandemic. Updating the info on Maps would be great, as we wouldn’t have had to cross the whole city for nothing!

Make a reservation!! We showed up and were turned away since it was full and had to come back once we made a reservation. They have tours in both English and Portuguese separately so sign up accordingly. The caves were really neat and there were some fun facts along the way! They make sure you have time to get all the photos you want and don't feel rushed. You will have to wear a helmet down there and it can be chilly so you may want to bring a jacket

Despite long tours are cancelled because of the pandemic, the short one (20-30 minutes, 5 euro) is still worth considering. That's a brief introduction to a volcanic history of the island and remains of the eruption.

The Coal Caves is hugely interesting lava tubes, convenient to downtown Ponta Delgada. Tip: Reserve in advance, they have limited spots on the tours and you don't want to waste your time. Cool rock formations. Tip: wear good shoes, the lava rock is quite rough in spots.

Ever wondered what a lava cave looks like? What about bacteria that grows in darkness on the residue of left over lava? Well you can get all of the answers to these questions and more right here! Two tours are available; a 30 minute tour (ours was in English, the one prior in Portuguese) and a 3 hour 'pot holeing' one (we did not do this one). Very informative and knowledgeable guide who answered all of our questions. Well worth a visit.

New Experience. Great cave tour by Alberto. We know the underground history of the island. Free WiFi with good speed.
