It's a flipping long walk up LOTS of stairs, to reach the castle, but it's worth the climb. When you finally reach the castle, there's another steep set of stairs, up to the keep and WOW! What a view! Also, there's a really pretty house, opposite the first flight of stairs, with lots of flowers outside. Just as spectacular as the castle.

Pombal was my transit station. I had 50 min. (35 actually because the train was late.) and my phone told me there's a castle in this town. So I went and had a quick look. The castle's fantastic! It's a templar castle and looks really cool. I was the only visitor there. The staff lady friendly greeted me at the entrance. I told her I don't have much time and want to see the castle real quick. I hope I didn't seem rude to her. Last but not least this 35 min. visiting is not for anybody. The castle's on a 50-60 meters hill. The castle itself is however not big.

A free and explorable castle with signs to help you understand along the way. If you spend any time in Pombal and don't go here, you are missing out on at the very least some nice views.

Really impressive place with great views as it's a hilltop castle. Fascinating history depicted in the two short films, too - my young kids enjoyed both of them: a cartoon and a well-produced 3D short. And it's all free! Five stars.
