Checkout user journey is poor. Payment is not possible via the site when paying with debit, and when going to 'complete payment. the website presents you with a blank page saying that your cart is empty. This makes for a very frustrating and confusing user experience. After that you may find an unexpected email in your inbox, telling you that your order was successful and you can pay via bank transfer. I have never experienced such broken user journey for a checkout. It's inviting you to give up at every step. If however you do continue to spend ages trying to get the stuff you bought, you will find that the customer service is there, responding promptly and helping you through the most confusing checkout process. I wonder why something that is globally optimised to 2 clicks, takes so long and involves so much human interaction from the business; seems like both customers and business are wasting a lot of time. Part of my purchase was tutorial videos. The links supplied (hidden in a order confirmation email) did work initially, and to my disappointment they have ceased to work properly after a couple of days. I had planned my weekend to make time for these videos and spend some time learning to embroider, to find that the links no longer work, and instead I need to contact Bordal again about another frustrating experience. [Bordal has replied very quickly to my email regarding this issue, or a Sunday Morning, which has made this review go from a 2 star to a 3 star] I admire Bordal for their innovative ideas and initiatives, but it seems like they have not paid much attention/investment to their user journeys on the website which can potentially extend customer delight and generate a lot of revenue, elevating the brand to a higher more global level expected as standard by most consumers.

Bordal is the best shop for discovering the Madeira embroidery made on the island. The works are displayed nicely and there were lots of different works to choose and are well organized so you can find them. The clerks were very helpful in finding the different pieces and making suggestions for purchase without a hard sell (like some other shops). Prices reflect the amount of work put into each item and are comparable with other shops. There is a historical display of how the Madeira embroidery patterns are created. The clerks can describe the process as well. Many books of old embroidery patterns are part of the display.

The Ladies from Bordal Shop were very obliging and helped were they could. They took their time for our questions and for their consultation. This Shop is a little treasure at Madeira, for keeping up the Tradition of embroidery. Worth a visit in any case.

Wonderful place to feel traditional spirit of Madeira. Absolutely magnificent embroideries (pictures, pillows etc.), a wide range of table wears and beddings. Very helpful and friendly staff eager to help each customer. Definitely worth visiting.

Exquisite household fabrics, clothes and a wonderful range of embroidered items for babies. All hand made and finished. Expensive until you see the work that goes into producing the products. Worth a visit just to see the standard of work and skill. Helpful assistants. Workshops held on Thursdays so you can learn some of the skills.
