VilacomVida is a Portuguese non-profit organisation which has been created to help people with intelectual disabilities - who we call "Independent Living generations" - to live independently, to feel fulfilled in their job, to earn their own salary. Our mission is, in one word, to change the Portuguese paradigm from the Institutional to the Community-based care one, and it is in line with the European De-Institutionalisation initiatives for the Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion (http://ec.europa.eu/social/main.jsp?catId=956). Our first independent living project, "CafécomVida", is a pilot-project designed for young adults with mild cognitive disorders. It will be community-open / public space, located in a village, a neighbourhood or even an university, aiming to teach social and professional skills to young Independent Living generations, in a mixed model combining training and employability. Set in a public space this project will allow costumers to get engaged with these young adults, changing their mindsets and stereotypes on diversity, aiming at a new inclusive social model.
