This was an old monastery. Placed near an old roman bridge. Wich makes it unique an a important place in all time history. No one feels indifferent after visit it. The views to the river are UNBELIEVABLE

An impressive manueline (baroque) 16th century church dedicated to Saint Gonçalo (1187-1259) a Dominican friar who played an important role in the development of Amarante. The city’s picturesque bridge over the Taméga River is attributed to the saint’s efforts.
