We were lucky that the church was (still) open and got a very nice explanation also. Church is amazing with lots of details. Next few years the interiour will be renovated so not always be open for the public. Its a bit hidden but worth a look for sure.

Currently under reconstruction (October 2020) and can't be visited. Seems to be beautiful from the pictures on the reconstruction posters, so I give it a theoretical 4 stars :) Hope it turns out perfect
A must see with breathtaking interior
Manuel was the assistant working there, with excellent English and a clear passion for the church. He showed us so much history, nooks, and secrets, with an infectious storytelling. It may be under repairs, but if you’re lucky to have the right volunteer working, centuries of secrets can unfold for the unsuspecting tourist! The gold leaf is gorgeous, and the baroque style enchanting.
Porto's Igreja de Santa Clara is a fine example of my favourite kind of historic Catholic church; these are the one that are fairly austere and humble on the outside, but when you pass through the doorway you are almost overwhelmed by the opulent decor. The exterior of the church is largely 15th century in origin and built in the Gothic style. The exception is the main entrance which was remodeled in the Baroque style. Sitting in a courtyard, just off a leafy square, the church has a very peaceful feel to it. You wouldn't know you were only minutes from Porto's famed Ribeira and the city centre. Inside the Igreja de Santa Clara is something of a contrast; during the 17th century the interior was transformed into a masterpiece of gilded woodwork. There is barely an inch of this church that is not adorned with angels, saints, cherubs or some decorative feature. Some may think this is all a little over the top, but I would rate it as some of the finest baroque meets rococo craftsmanship to be found in Portugal.
Amazing intricate and beautiful wood carving and intense gold. Only walk in/walk out though. Have a conversation with the guard for a more in-depth visit.
Sure its lovely, but the entire thing was closed for renovation.
So far, one of the best churches I’ve seen. We were there in June 2018, and managed to get in only because we were with a guided tour. They mentioned back then that it was going to be completely closed for about 2 years restoration. Indeed, it smelled a lot of dust there and gold turned green that needed to be taken care of. But even with that, Its impressive and I would recommend to visit it when open again. (P.S. pictures were not allowed to be taken inside)
