I recommend walking down the harbor until you get to this and point of a beautiful site of this fortress. Around sunset was a beautiful time to go. Even though it rained the waves were crashing against the side of the building. We stood there for some time watching this lovely scenery.

Nice place of the city. There is a bar down at its corner close to the see. Up there the view is beautiful on the ocean and the city.
Best swimming place in funchal
Not alot there but still nice to visit
It's free! Great place to visit at sunset, but not a lot going on. Very little in the way of historic references or information.
The Fort of São Tiago is located in the historical centre of Funchal, Madeira. Originally built to protect the coast from piracy during the 16th-17th century. From 1992 to 2014 it was the contemporary Art Museum of Funchal (now Museu de Arte Contemporânea da Madeira in Estreito da Calheta).
Nice sea views. Good spot for sunset.
A bit run down but it is PERFECT for going to the beach!!!
