Great hospitality from the moment they greeted us from our taxi to saying goodbye at the end of our stay. Reception is in the old town hall and has a bar area good for waiting for taxis or just watching the world go by. Our room was on the first floor of the old fish market next door. Bright, airy, spacious and exceptionally well fitted out. Our small balcony looked out over the bay, perfect. The sliding doors out to the balcony did a fine job of keeping out any noise. Breakfast was a real highlight, with a great range of pastries, fruit, cold cuts, cooked items, cereals, juices and even sparkling wine. The coffee (especially the espresso) were typically Portuguese, guaranteed to get you wide awake. We never found time to eat lunch or dinner in the restaurant, next time maybe. Adjacent to the restaurant is a sauna, shower and heated(ish, 21) infinity pool with the same amazing views as the restaurant over the bay. At the very end of the terrace you can see the sunset over the other side of the harbour. The hotel runs an employee of the month competition and asks each guest to cast their vote, a task made difficult by everyone of them being friendly, professional and knowledgeable. Need tickets, a taxi, a recommendation? Just ask and it will be done in a jiffy. A very special place indeed.

Absolutely loved our stay there! Perfect location with breathtaking view over the Churchill Bay, staff is friendly and very helpful, excellent food in the restaurant, pool with gorgeous view, modern, simple and functional decor, plenty of restaurants nearby, but difficult to park for free near the hotel that makes the area car free :) Kids friendly! Staff was always helping us to take care of our little one: interacting, playing and even rocking her :) perfect ratio quality/price! Would love to come back!
Place to visit in homage of the man who saved free Europe. Full of memorabilia related to the times Sir Winston Churchill visited the area whilst painting the various vistas. Excellent service supported by friendly staff.
New hotel nicely located in the bay of the fishing town. Room with view of the bay was nice except the bathroom door which was very open and did not block noises of your significant other doing their thing, if you are sensitive about that... Staff and service were amazing and helpful. Breakfast was ok and sufficiently diverse for a week stay although the scrambled eggs could need more seasoning. Drinks at the lounge bar were nice and the bartender Nuno showed us how to make the local poncha cocktail! Unfortunately the dinner at the hotel restaurant only really offers proper meat based menus and just the common boring vegetable pasta dish for vegetarians. More diversity would be appreciated here. Parking is not possible directly at the hotel. There is a public parking lot 2 minutes away but that costs 10 euro per day when asking the reception staff. Location is otherwise nice and not too touristy, many locals are are enjoying their evening. The hotel offers a very small fitness room, pool and sauna. We only tried the pool which was nice for a quick cool down. Overall we had a nice stay and can recommend this hotel for a week stay as a couple ( if you don't mind the bathroom door...).
I recently had dinner at the restaurant looking out over the picturesque bay. The food was the best I tasted on my 1 week holiday in Madeira plus the service was excellent. I was losing hope of getting service with a smile but here I was made to feel welcome and the staff were happy, unlike staff in all the other restaurants I visited. Highly worth a visit. The only down side was the portions were too big so can't really complain about that. Enjoy
Nice hotel. Brand new. Staff at the restaurante are still getting the hang of it but they try. Great view from the room and terrace pool fantastic.
For those who don't like the hustle and bustle and not far from Funchal and also want to have a hotel by the sea and room with sea view plus impressive service. Here, It is Pestana Churchill Bay!
Recent 7 night holiday in Madeira. We stayed at the Pestana Churchill Bay Hotel in Camara da Lobos which overlooks the harbour. It is a pousada hotel which I believe once was the old fish market. The hotel is small & boutique in style, simply but beautifully presented. All the staff were friendly, helpful and professional at all times. We stayed on a B & B basis, the breakfast was buffet-style, of excellent quality with plenty of choice available including fresh fruit every morning. Several good restaurants very close by, a real mecca for fish lovers. There is no parking at the hotel but they can arrange parking at a nearby covered car park for 7.50 per day. They have a pass for the barriers & you just pay the hotel at the end of your stay. We received an upgrade to a second floor room with a balcony overlooking the harbour which was lovely. However, it was immediately below the roof terrace restaurant & it was on occasions quite noisy as chairs were moved about. Only a problem if you tend to be in bed early as the restaurant serves until 10.30pm! So either ask for a room on the ground floor which also have views over the harbour or a second floor room at the far end of the building under the swimming pool area. We shall definitely return!
