Inaugurated in 1951. Do not miss the visit to the stained glass windows that illuminate the side altars, by Almada Negreiros, allusive to the devotion of the Holy Constable to Christ and His Mother and the sculptures of Leopoldo de Almeida.

This 1950's church built in the gothic style houses the bones of the Sainted Constable of Portugal who was doing his duty at the Battle of Ceuta in 1415 where a young Prince Henry the Navigator was proving himself. Our Constable was also the builder of the ruined Carmo Convent left to remind the city of Lisbon of its devastating earthquake of 1755. This is where the Saint's bones were removed from to be housed in this church of his name. Also known as Saint Nuno of Santa Maria this parish Church of the Sainted Constable is dedicated to his memory. Dying in the same year that Joan of Ark was burned at the stake he is not forgotten in the hearts of the Portuguese. His church with its twin bell towers is easily spotted on the Lisbon skyline today.
