The chapel was originally part of the Royal Palace of Coimbra which was acquired by the University from the Royal Family in 1597. It retained royal privilege even after the purchase. The project belonged to Marcos Pires, who designed the naturalistic Manueline side door, although he died in 1521 and his work had to be finished by Diogo de Castilho. The entrance to the chapel is through a neo-classical door made by José de Carvalho in 1780. کلیسای زیبای سلطنتی در قلب دانشگاه قدیمی کویمبرا، پرتغال. کوچک اما بسیار زیبا و با شکوه

Amazing place! The building was built in the end of XV century and has an organ that was built in 1733 with barroc style and more than 2000 tubes. The place is really beautiful and the ticket is sold by 10 Euros and includes Biblioteca Joanina, Paço Real and the museum of science.

A place reserved for the royalty and noble men. It's good to visit the chapel, library and museum together

Small but adequate church. The organ is quite nice looking, but otherwise definitely not a spot on any pilgrimage beyond Portugal.

Part of the University tour. This small Chapel is representative for several styles of Portuguese architecture and dates from time of Reconquista. It is beautiful.

This museum is a sleeping gem. You can spend a day there seeing the chapel, tower, artifacts, tiles etc. Pedro Peixoto showed us around the museum. He made history come alive and made our visit amazing! He loves his city, loves this museum and is happy to share his vast knowledge. Call ahead to see that he is available the day you visit. Put this museum in the top 3 sites to visit in coimbra! Fabulous!
