Beautiful ruins of what looks like a very impressive monestary for it's time. It's with the 4 euros

The expanse of space at Monteiro de Santa Clara-a-Velha is a feast for the eyes. The structure of the 13th Century Monastery is impressive. When we entered through the parking lot, we were greeted by stone walls. We walked to the entrance and was greeted by the massive monastic structure. Entrance is 4 per person. The 15 minutes video on the life of the nuns is in Portuguese with English subtitles. There is a Cafe serving expresso or Americano coffee with some pastries with both internal and external seating options to admire the Monastery from a distance. At 41C minus the humidity, we were not tempted to walk the length of the field to the Monastery. It was hot, really hot.
It's interesting to go and learn about the history of the place, if you care about such things. Structure-wise there isn't all that much to see in the former monastery itself, as it's not very vast. Some very nice construction details inside though. Before reaching the structure you will go through a mini museum with some interesting exhibits and history bits, in which we spent more time than in the monastery. It's still one of the must-sees of Coimbra, so make sure to drop by.
Extraordinary place. Very authentic. Also recommend for people who like to make exceptional pictures.
Its good for tourists to visit, to know such things as the history and fun facts
The life of the nuns is not very interesting but the scenery is very nice for photographer's.
This remounts to my teenager times when the monastery was always under water because of the floods. Nowadays a very organized museum with explanations very clear divided in various sections and precious pieces of pottery that the aristocratic ladies used to offer when entering to become nuns. Everything was rebuilt and one can see the stones which were part of the architecture. Watching the video in the museum gives us the perspective of the evolution of the monument. A must see!
When i went there it was closed, but i saw from outside, looks nice
