Friendly and hard working staff maintain standards throughout this in much need of an upgrade resort, lovely pool area and ample beds and grounds are quiet and tranquil, the apartments are in urgent need of fresh decor and facilities

Nice friendly reception, large, light, comfortable and spacious accommodation. Food: dinner and buffet breakfast nicely presented. Staff attentive, helpful but not intrusive and all English speaking. The hotel has a nice historic ambience with antique artifacts located throughout. When reconstructed in the 1990's it was built retaining parts of the convent and houses it's own church. It has lots of nooks and crannies at different levels each with a different view of the castle walls. A visit to the archaeological crypt/museum located beneath the hotel at a cost of 1.50 euros is a must. The only downside is the exterior of the building which is seriously in need of refurbishment in the way of a fresh coat of paint. A great place to visit located on top of a hill with views of the town, river and countryside.

Excellent place to stay with wonderfully helpful and friendly staff. Ready to help plan all details of the holiday. Plenty of restaurants so no issues there Live music in the evenings with comfy areas to congregate in Parking is offered on site at 5 a day Sadly WiFi is not available in the village apartments only in reception and by the pool which I was a bit sad about? though I was advised advised this is planned for addition soon. If this has since been added please consider this to be 5*

Easy to live in once you've cracked the confusing lift and floors layout. Nice place, nice people and more of old world atmosphere, in other words it's not an anonymous multistorey block. Food is good and good value.

Pousada Dom Alfonso II was amazing! The staff was superb, the grounds fantastic, and the experience perfect. Would recommend this place to anyone wanting a night or two in a castle!

I got very good room, but I guess all of the rooms can offer: spacious size, kitchen, balcony and very comfortable bed. I've had good experience with wi-fi. Location of hotel is very good too, close to the see, aside of main road, but still separated by large park, so it's not noisy. Internal facilities seems pretty nice as well, but I didn't use most of them (well January is January :) ) Prices for drinks are a bit crazy.

We've been coming here since it opened in 1997 and love everything about it. The gardens are wonderful, the staff are really friendly and helpful and food is great.
