The yearly medieval party is absolutely great. Many diff stalls, shows, delicious traditional food and the show near the monastery was the highlight :) worth it!

Wonderful monument but sadly it's closed most time of the year ( except during the annual mediaeval fair).

Monastery of Leca do Balio existed already in X century as Benedictine mixed Convent for nuns and brothers. Its rights were confirmed by self-styled Queen Teresa of Portugal and then by her son first real King of Portugal Afonso - Henriques in XII century but by that time Monastery already belonged to knights of the Order of the Hospital of Saint John the Baptist of Jerusalem or Hospitallers. Knight Hospitaller Feranao Vasquez Pimentel reconstructed Monastery in beginning of XIV century and today's monastery is the product of his job accomplished mostly by 1337. It's a really beautiful church, outside and inside. Worth a visit! Surroundings are all green and there's a kids park nearby, in the back. In summer there's usually a medieval fair with lots of entertainment, pretty fun.
