The least exciting place in the whole of Funchal. Fit for purpose but hard to navigate on foot

If you are on a cruise ship you will probably want to take transport into the town as it is now quite some distance from the town. Having said that the walk would by around 10 minutes or so. It is a modern port with good facilities as it handles shipping every day. The terminal is on the small side but there were no delays getting in or out of the port.
Every time I have been here (6 times?) the port has changed and expanded. Easy walk to the center from the cruise ship pier (which has also been greatly improved)
Visited the port of Funchal today and enjoyed the experience. Not only was the weather perfect, I was lucky enough to witness the arrival of a cruise ship. And, from the port, one has a beautiful view of Funchal. Definitely worth the visit. Well done!
