Arriving at the hotel you are greeted with a warm hello and a lovely bright roomy reception. Check in was swift and the room was good sized and clean. There are lifts and stairs and due to the layout you will always be using your choice for getting up or down to a different floor. One main restaurant which operates a two shift system and 2 themed restaurant which you have to book. We tried the Italian and it was very nice. The main restaurant is also good with lots of choice but it would be good if they catered more for vegetarians otherwise pasta is a constant friend. That said, food overall was good. Nightly entertainment is available. Hotel runs a free shuttle service in time Funchal which is very handy. Outdoor pool has a main pool which has a swim up bar as well as a seated area and serves snacks daily. Another pool is adults only, hot tub is 14 and up and non smoking signs around the pool (there is a smoking area),these rules are not enforced and the hotel would benefit from doing so. There is a further lift at the back of the hotel down to the ocean a very short walk away, you have to use the lift to get up or down. Atlantic is strong and beach is from pebble to boulder sized smooth black stones, so nice to see it but not practical to bath or swim. Hotel is good size but not sprawling, nice layout and colour. We were there for Halloween and they were transforming the hotel with some spooky decorations. Overall a lovely stay and we would happily go back.

Nice room, fabulous views, friendly staff but sold as 5* but really wasn't even 4*!- poor room service where used cups and glasses teas/coffees never cleaned,removed or replaced, sheets not changed, poor restaurant food, poor entertainment. Pools also kept at very cold temps to accommodate other nationalities tastes. But we loved Madiera and would return again just to another hotel!
Had an amazing week at Pestana Royal! The staff, food and hotel was just amazing. There's nothing to complain about and I'll be back soon. Thank you for the beautiful time!

Nice place. Very nice hotel, but just a little bit need a refreshing. Small territory, few pool. Free shuttle to the Funchal. Very good food - every day different type of cousin. Show programme every day. Close to the very beautiful beach.
Amazing the most beautiful place I've been the staff friendly and helpful the rooms great size and food 100% brilliant and cocktail amazing beautiful views and would come and stay here again and again
