Fantastic Ocean front rooms feels like your cruising but not moving. The view to the horizon is so crisp. Food is good always felt we had enough and drinks fair. Hotel feels and looks from year 2000.

Lovely hotel on the beach. Nice big rooms with sea view and great soundtrack from the waves. Very friendly staff, all-inclusive restaurant with good choices for eating and nice amenities. Swimming pool has great views of the ocean. It even has a charter bus every half hour to get you to Funchal city center. The only downside, although that's the case with the whole island, the beach is made of rocks and very little volcanic sand. Recommended.

Disappointed with this hotel. It could do with a thorough overhaul. The rooms were large with great views of the sea but furniture old, beds were uncomfortable and pillows very lumpy, hair dryer didn't work properly and after complaining twice it was replaced with another one that didn't work properly. Not good if you have long hair! The food was poor - I accept all inclusive food is never as good as restaurant food but choice was very limited, often cold and some food was recirculated from previous meal to the next. There is supposed to be an Italian restaurant but when we were there (mid November) we were told it was shut. The bar looks like an afterthought and all drinks served in small glasses which meant frequent trips to the crowded bar. The positive about the hotel was the staff. They were excellent, friendly and helpful. The standard of the hotel is not their fault.

I spend a week here and was very satisfied. The location of the hotel is great - just on the beach (this is a reason I didn’t try hotel pool). The beach is clean, quiet and pleasant. There is not much black sand at the hotel area but many black pebble-stones (so do not forget to pack swimming shoes). Food was very good, staff friendly, outside seating with ocean view is great. Pestana Ocean Bay hotel is about 20 years old, has no air condition but temperature in our room in 6th floor was OK as there was always pleasant wind from the ocean. Do not expect luxury hotel, but it is clean and maintained. Ratio price/performance is excellent. Hotel bus goes to Funchal almost every hour. The bad? I didn’t like hotel entertainment and instant coffee.
All inclusive with Tui great entertainment, lovely staff, some great special restaurants.
This hotel has a warm and friendly atmosphere. The house keeping staff clean the rooms to a very good standard. The food in the restaurant is good but a bit limited. I have never gone hungry at any time. There is always something different from salards to pasta to cooked and cold meats and vegetables. The pool area is kept beautiful clean. The area is very pretty breath taking watching the wave crash on to the pebble beach. There is a courtesy but that take you into Funchal, a short walk take you to a shopping centre the Forum. Madirea is renowned for its walking so lot to do....
