The winery has free tasting. It’s a pity that they don’t do any winery tour, nor do they explain what Madeira they are serving for tasting. Compared to other brands, Oliveira wine is on the more powerful, more intense side, the wine is straight to the point of each Madeira style - very good quality

I have visited vineyards and done wine tasting in more than 7 countries and this is my only bad experience. There was no explanation of the wine or introduction to the producer, and the lady who poured the three (basic) wines then left and never returned. She stood chatting with her colleagues a few meters away but resisted all my attempts to make eye contact and get her attention. Eventually we just left. The tasting is free (if that is your priority) but I would have happily paid for a more comprehensive introduction to the wine and a broader array of wines to taste. Instead I found this at Blandy’s and bought 6 liters of excellent wine to take home.

Working in the wine trade and being passionately interested in wine, we've enjoyed a good few wine tastings and tours over the years. Of these experiences, Pereira D'Oliveira stands out as one of the best yet, if not the best. Arriving in this beautiful listed building, dating back to 1619, we marvelled at all of the flawless, historic bottles on the shelves. The oldest vintage on display was produced in 1850. Incredible. We then met Luís, who owns the firm with his nephew. Despite being considerably busy with tour groups, we sat at a private table and were given a thorough and detailed introduction to the company. We were also given some fantastic printed materials with a background on the winery, as well as price lists and other information. After discussing this at length and having all of our questions answered perfectly, we began the tasting. I believe the usual tasting consists of three different Madeira wines, which would be an absolute treat. We were given the most incredible Madeira tasting imaginable, with an unbelievable range of styles and vintages. Having mentioned that the majority of our group preferred a sweeter style, Luís tailored our tasting to suit this. After our tasting had finished - during which we asked many questions about Luís and Pereira D'Oliveira, which he was only too pleased to answer - he very kindly took us for a tour. We saw the most recently acquired building next door, and heard about the plans and ongoing work to develop it. We then went back to the shop and bought some of the fantastic wines that we had been tasting, which were packaged wonderfully to ensure they were safe for our flight later that day. I would recommend booking as far in advance as possible if you are looking to visit here, but it is without doubt worth every effort. Absolutely fantastic tasting and tour, with huge thanks to Luís and his team - we cannot express our appreciation and gratitude enough!

We were given four sherry glass sized samples of Madeira wine to taste ... Dry, medium dry, medium sweet and a 5-year old sweet. It was all very relaxed and there was no pressure to purchase. The wines we purchased we're well wrapped in a box and a heavy weight carrier bag.

Great place to taste Madeira wine. Welcoming staff and beautiful site. The decoration could be better! Highly recommend!
