Rating For Hertz in Funchal: I made a small car accident. The staff was very friedly! It was a fair price for the damage on the car that i made. No touri nap! I worried a lot. Thank you again A credit Card hold amond ist normal, i don't Understand the Bad Ratings.

Extremely poor experience with Hertz Funchal, firstly all the prices they provide you are without IVA (VAT in the UK), so you will get a nasty surprise at the end, normally the companies give quotes with the IVA included. Secondly, the low mileage allowance, unless you go to your hotel and then only drive the equivalent of 40 miles per day you will be heavily charged by Hertz. Let's face it, if you are going to visit the island, this allowance is insufficient. Thirdly and more importantly their method of attracting customers with low prices and then once you arrive at the island they try to coerce to accept hefty insurance, for example, my initial quote was around 6 euros a day for the car and then tried to sell me a 20 euros day insurance. Overall, after renting cars in several locations with several companies, I can say without a doubt, this is the worst company I've dealt with, the insurance is not something new, but the fact they never gave me quotes with the IVA included and the low mileage allowance issue, made this experience horrible with a sense that I was scammed. I will never rent cars from Hertz ever again, and will advise my friends and family not to rent from them again.

Where to start? Car insurance more expensive than the car itself. Km’s limitation. 7 days, 420km. Someone needs to know that in holidays you aren’t supposed to do the same way over and over again. At the counter no one mentioned the prices presented were without IVA (VAT), we had to come out in the morning to find out that we need to pay more than planned. Well... waste of time. Ever again.

Did exactly what they said they would do. No hidden charges, checked the car in our presence and all signed off. Car was lovely and clean. After a previous negative experience with Goldcar, this has gone some way to restoring my faith in car rental firms.

I've forgot my camera in the central arm rest of the car, and the Funchal airport agency returned it by the local post office to Paris. It is so nice to have all my photos of the year back. You can really have trust in this staff.

Terrible- BE CAREFUL! we rented a small car for 4 days using Car Rental site. We have had two big problems: 1) They did not accept a Visa Credit card (used fot the paymet of 144 euros on the Rental car site) because, as they said, the card, other than \credit\ reports also \debit\ card (because it can function as a debit card if we withdraw money)...Incredible, we used that card many other times, with no problem, also with Hertz and other big company in Europe and USA!- they told us it is a rule of Hertz Portugal (???). Fortunately, we had a second credit card and used that-otherwise the rental would be failed. 2) maybe even worst, we found on the receipt received via mail a non -waivable excess of 196 euros! we paid 200 euros more than the estimated when we picked the car. Unfortunately we only read the google comments later, now we are not so surprised of being ROBBED . I am very angry obviously and I am trying to contact them by phone now (customer service) and..they can't find the receipt (!) Please avoid this rental and signal this shame to Hertz Europe (I will do this). We are speaking about one of the biggest companies in the world…they make fun of their customers.

Don't rent with Hertz at Funchal Airport! We returned the car with a full tank (in the deposit they charge you a full tank before you set off). We never got the difference (around 50) back, despite trying to contact them multiple times. Not even Hertz Europe Customerservice could help! Plus: We got a car with really worn out tyres - dangerous! Upon returning, they charged us for a damaged tyre - luckily we were properly insured, but it looks like they just replace old tyres via the customer's insurance. Rent elsewhere!

Be aware from this unfair rent-a-car company! They gave me a ew\ Renault Megane SportBreak at the Madeira Airport (the car had already 12 km as, obviously, shouldn't has appeared from nothing in the parking) and the employee at the desk had filled up the vehicle status form writing o damages\ and without show me the car. It was 8 pm and the sky was dark. I found the car in the parking and checked it under the yellow artificial lights. Nobody was with me assisting to the check. I thought the car was ok and move out from the parking. Two days later I devolved the car at Hertz station in the town; it was 4.30 pm and the sky was clear with a blinding sun! The employee checked the car with me and she rounded the car three times without find nothing of relevant. Before to sign the papers she moved her hand onto the spoiler (the deepest part of the front bumper); I am talking about the two little pieces of dark (not painted) plastic, just down the bumper. She found an invisible scratch (not an heavy abrasion!!!) in the middle of the two spoiler - not down of them - and starting to say that those were damages and I was responsible within the amount of the franchise. I tried to explain the situation but I hasn't understood my position. She has reteined the documents of the rent (contract, vehicle status form, etc.) without giving me a copy (although I have asked for that several times) and started the damages claim process. Days after I received a quotation for these \damages\: 137,50 Euros. I have shown the pictures of those scratches to more than one repairer and everyone said me that the amount for the repair would be between 40 to 50 Euros! I am now at the last step of contestation with Hertz but I advice you: DON'T RENT A CAR WITH HERTZ!
