We really liked it - my husband took local fish scabbard fish with banana and even a couple of days, still raving about it. Nice idea with with tasting - you can taste all of them. Love the location and service.

Nice microbrewery type bar/restaurant with a semi-German beer garden vibe. Their own brews are quite nice and the menu is extensive. Big terrace and covered \indoor\ area/tent. Staff were very friendly, chatty and efficient.

This was a recommendation by one of the boatmen when we went whale watching. We initially thought this was going to be a typical tourist trap but there were plenty of locals there with their families. The food was delicious and authentically Madeiran and reasonably priced. The Gambas in garlic and olive oil was delicious and I would also recommend their traditional scabbard fish with banana (it sounds weird but it works!). The highlights for me were their fried maize (mind-blowing!) selection of beers (all brewed in-house) and their desserts, which are wheeled to your table after your meal. Makes it harder to say no, but why would you say no if they all look and taste so good??

We ordered three separate dishes, we shared a sautéed squid with garlic bread for starters. Then had a chicken salad and the monkfish with prawns for mains. I can honestly say the squid was the best thing I've tasted on the island, I highly recommend this. Service was quick and efficient. Reasonable prices, view over the harbour was good.

Ask for the special beer menu with all the local brews currently available... the regular menu on the table only says “beerhouse beer”..

This seems like a tourist plate, and in fact it is, but there are lots of Madeirenses and Portuguese that go there. This is a guarantee that the food will be great :) Among all the things we've ordered, the one that really worth mentioning is the lobster and shrimp Açorda. This was the best açorda I had in years! Definitely a must. A part from the local beer, try a mint Poncha. Quite different from the more traditional ones, but still really good!
