Built to commemorate the Victory of Portuguese over the Castilians in 1385, this Gothic styled Monastery was served as the burial Church of the 15th century Aviz Dynasty. Dedicated to the Virgin Mary, the construction of this complex had taken over a century from 1386 to 1517. This magnificent building is now one of Portugal's historic monument; a museum; and an UNESCO World Heritage Site. Several photos attached.

Marvelous bulding in the center of the city. Ornaments inside it are magnificent and while you walking there inside it you never stop asking the question - how did they built it with the tools of their age. Absolutely worth to visit

Wow! The unfinished chapel light was beyond compare when I arrived. A beautiful experience overall. A quaint small town with easy parking close to the monuments. No hairpin pin turns downhill on cobblestone through small arches. Enjoyable, reasonable for the quality. Ask for Senior rate.
