These folks are doing an invaluable service not just to all of the four legged fury friends, but also helping keep them off the streets. Hats off to the organization, and especially those hard working souls cleaning , feeding and caring for the dogs and cats.

This is not exactly a tourist spot, although you would be welcomed here any time. Of course this is the place for pet lovers. The work they do, most of them volunteers, is crucial for the wellbeing of abandoned dogs and cats alike. Their services, which all contribute for the maintenance of this place, include a veterinarian and crematorium. One dog was adopted and actually ran away back here... Can you believe that?

Since August 2017, I have seen an abandoned Labrador in Murches over the A5 bridge. The dog was initially in great shape. Having seen the dog shelter’s vehicle pass by often, I took hold of their number and called them, reporting the stray dog (which their car passes by often). They told me they cannot do anything, and that I have to contact the GNR (police) to make a report since it is the GNR apparently that picks the dog up and brings the dog to the shelter. I contacted GNR Alcabideche 3x, each time making a report. Today is January 2018 and the labrador is skinny, weak, in bad shape and has a broken leg, is limping around. One star to this failed system. I cannot take in any more stray dogs unfortunately but whatever system they got here is a failure. The sad thing is their car passes by this stray dog often, several times a day even (i know it since I walk my dog often). Really sad.
